Catholic Values

At OLS, we believe that, in addition to a challenging curriculum and 21st-century education tools, the Catholic faith should be at the heart of everything we do:

  • Religious education is a core component of our curriculum.
  • Each day begins with a morning prayer.
  • At the monthly Student Mass, all students get the opportunity to participate through readings, bringing up the gifts, and more.
  • Throughout the year, each class participates in service projects to help those in need.

Innovative Education

OLS students have access to the latest in education technology – SMARTBoards, iPads, WiFi and more. In addition, earlier this year, we opened our brand new Interactive Library Media Center! This center is a state-of-the-art computer lab & library, containing interactive workspaces for students to build projects, research assignments and more.

We also utilize cutting-edge educational apps, such as the award-winning BrainPop and IXL, a comprehensive mathematics skills program.

We are very proud of the wide range of options available to OLS students, and plan to keep rolling out the best educational programs in the future.

STEM-Friendly School

Science. Technology. Engineering. Math.

STEM initiatives are a staple of an OLS education. The Science and Computer Education departments partner on joint projects throughout the year. Here are a few examples of STEM-friendly activities at OLS:

Roller Coaster Engineering
Students design roller coasters using a simulation program, which requires them to calculate the speed, weight, angles and slopes needed to get the coasters around the track. Then, the students build scale models of the roller coasters to determine if their designs work.

Sphero Robotic Ball
The Sphero is a robotic ball that students control via iPad. They navigate the Sphero through challenging obstacle courses. In addition, the students learn the fundamentals of computer programming while sharpening their Math and Science skills.

Computer Coding
OLS students learn that coding can be lots of fun. By using innovative programs such as Scratch/Scratch Jr., Code Studio, Kodable, and Tynker, the students get hands-on experience creating their own interactive games, stories, and animations. We are active participants in the annual “Hour of Code“, and have our very own Coding Club. Game on!
